On our way home from Atlanta, we stopped at Dawsonville, GA to visit the Georgia Motorsports Museum.

Bill Elliot - "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville" - drove this 1985 Ford Thunderbird to victory in the Daytona 500, the Winston 500 (Talladega, AL) and the Southern 500 (Darlington, SC), thereby willing the innaugural "Winston Million." He also immediately became known as "Million Dollar Bill."

Click on this pic to see the Engine that Ernie Elliot built for the car used to win the first $1,000,000.00 from Winston Cup sponsor R. J. Reynolds. Driver Bill and engine-builder Ernie had eleven superspeedway victories in 1985.
