On my way home from a trip to the recycling center Thursday, I encountered a few trains in the Daisy double-tracked mainline.

Train 175 is led by the typical "Catfish" and an EMD SD60.

This old Southern boxcar probably travelled this line years ago, without the gaudy paint addition.

Train 72Z is a loaded unit coal train, with three (two on the front, one on the rear) shiny and new GEVO AC motors. All three are wearing BNSF's modern "Swoosh" paint scheme.

The north-bound coal train is on track two, and train 283 with unit auto racks are on track one. Lots of new power in this picture; NS 2674 is an EMD SD70M-2

The coal loads take the siding at Sale Creek for a meet with this 117, who heads south after the 72Z gets cleared up. Both are soon on their way, even though 72Z reported an obstacle on the siding track and slowed considerably as he came through Bakewell.

On Friday I had to make a trip to the hardware store. The scanner tipped me off to some action: Dispatch says, "288, you'll meet 283 at Hixson then you'll go." Somebody else says, "285, clear Daisy." Yet another says, "72Z, clear # 2 at Thrasher Pike." I pull up next to the main at Daisy Dallas road, MP 321, where the single-track main from the north meets the double-track line to the south, and wait.

First up is south-bound train 285, an intermodal with double-stacks and some auto racks. He squirts across Daisy Dallas Road, straight through onto track one.

South of Harrison Lane the intermodal meets 72Z, a north-bound unit coal train on track two. Once 285 has cleared the switch, a brace of General Electric AC motors lead the coal loads out onto the single-track.

I quickly pivot and take advantage of the light, catching the lead units going away across Daisy Dallas Road.

It wouldn't be a Powder River coal train without a DPU on the rear. Here's a brand-new GEVO, shoving hard to get the coal to the generating plant. I chase this guy up to Sale Creek, where I wait around and bag 288 when he arrives. No pix, since the light was agin' me and nothing special for power. Friday, April 27, 2007
