Arlyn says, "The following pictures may look like the rerailing of the last car
was easy but it was anything but. A steady rain made men and
equipment wet and the mud was difficult for machines to operate in." Webmaster says, "Click on the picture to see it full-size."

Here's the task at hand: d35.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4vz9pp
Since 34 wouldn't be able to pull the loaded car up on rail by
itself, 1500 was brought in to MU with 34. d36.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/3q4dld
First job is to replace some of the ties to stabilize the rail.
Removing old ties: d37.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/3ulvde
Putting new ties in. d38.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4rvay7
The front truck rerailed quite easily. d39.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/5yok5p

But the back truck was quite another issue. Part of the problem was
the wheels had to be elevated so the hopper wouldn't be damaged.
Wedges were cut from blocking. d41.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4zvyn3
While this was going on, other workers started replacing the old
track from yesterday. d42.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4ds94m
OK, let's give it a try. Back truck going up. d43.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/3sqscf
d44.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/466n72
Unfortunately, the wheel on the other side slipped off the outside of
the rail. Note the rain drops. d45.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/3qnzhp
The rail had slid so both sides had to be torched to try and line
them up again. d46.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4kf6le
Here we go again. One wheel on!! d47.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/3onuyv
The last wheel rolls on!!!! d48.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/4puofe
All cars back on TOP of rail!!! d49.jpg -- http://tinyurl.com/53ajay
Arlyn says, "That's great but there's a lot of work to do yet. A lot of track has to be rebuilt. The 2 "empty" plastics cars in Barron are actually full and needed by Pliant Plastics. Jenny O-Turkey Store needs the 2 isolated loads and the loads that were left in Cameron. Tuesday's interchange hasn't been touched and there's another interchange coming tonight. The rest of today and tomorrow will be really busy days for the crew. Hopefully next week will be back to normal. Life on a shortline!!!"
