Removing the old Crossing Watchman's tower at Central Avenue, ca. 1960. The Burro Crane and Alco S-2 Switcher 2110 are standing on the M&T to perform this manuver. Note the Marshfield Cold Storage in the background. Keith

Hub City Jobbing Co. ca. 1925, from a retouched post card. This is why I hate colored or retouched post cards---they put in detail that simply wasn't there, like at the top of the building---the Name Plate. It actually read : "WE 1920 BER". Hub City Jobbing Co. got it's start as the Marshfield Grocer Co., both of which were started by the Weber Family. Weber's owned a large Grocery at the Corner of 4th Street and Central Avenue. Later, they would build the "Parkway" stores, one two blocks north of this photo and the other about a mile farther south, both on Central Avenue. we had a "North Parkway" and a "South Parkway". In 1972, Hub City Jobbing Co. built an all-new Warehouse/Distribution Facility in the Industrial Park here in Marshfield. This left several buildings empty, including Hub City's old Weber Building and the Railway Express Agency office right next door. Here the REA Office is torn down not long after Hub City vacated. Taking no chances, in the winter of 1978 I walked down to the Soo Line Depot and took two very bad shots of the Hub City/Weber Building. Why they yellowed I do not know, although it was a hazy, yellow day the day I shot these. Keith

The south side of Hub City Jobbing Co., ca. 1978. It was torn down that summer, IIRC. Keith

Just across Central Avenue and curving around behind the Depot. The Freight House lurks on the right. Keith

This was where I stopped, at the driveway leading from East 1st Street into the Depot grounds. At one time, House 1 joined the M&T on the other side of the crossing in the foreground. House 1 is the track closest to the Freight House. On a Saturday with the Saturday Tramp working, they derailed a 6-axle flatcar on that switch---which was a rough piece of trackage at best. After rerailing the flatcar, the West Switch for House 1 was not reinstalled and the track was taken up back to Maple Avenue in the background. The rails stayed in under the pavement until very recently. Keith

A Larry Easton Shot of the Marshfield Depot's north side with the Late Wes Foshay walking on the platform from 1963. The Train Order Signal is still up there, and a baggage cart is in evidence, although there is only one Passenger Train each way per day by the time of this shot. Period Post Card view of the rear of the Soo's Marshfield Depot, showing the covered portico on the rear, removed around 1950 when the Freight House closed and the Office Personel moved into the Depot. I'd guess this to have been shot about 1922-1925; a Soo Line Class H 4-6-2 Pacific Type loco has nosed in to the photo to the left. The M&T is here, but barely visible as it ran behind the Depot.
