Milw 718426.jpg (below, 549 x 381, 5-1)
Rotting stored in the Milwaukee Road yard at Wisconsin Rapids, old outside-braced wooden boxcar # 718426. There were a few of these old cars stashed on unused tracks in places like Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids. Some were later sold to Paper Mills as stored cars, some were company material cars.
MILW Mosinee Depot 5-19-74 Joe Stauber Photo.jpg (below, 885 x 592, 5-2)
Milwaukee Road's classic stucco station at Mosinee, Wis., in 1974, still an open agency at that time, complete with Telegraph.
MILW Rothschild Depot 5-19-74 Joe Stauber Photo.jpg (below,886 x 589, 5-3)
Farther up the track from Mosinee was Rothschild and the spiffy-looking wooden Milwaukee Road station there. If you look closely enough, you can see the interchange tracks with the Weyerhaeuser Paper Mill (out of sight to the left).
Milw Stanley EG HILLMAN in Wausau.jpg (945 x 645, 5-4)
I'm not certain when this particular business car was in Wausau, if it occurred during the Milwaukee Road days yet of long after. But, here it is in the Wausau Yard. Picture by Bob Schoneman.
MILW Tomahawk Depot 4-6-75 Joe Stauber Photo.jpg (below, 886 x 586, 5-5)
Milwaukee Road's stucco Tomahawk Depot in 1975. It must have been that year that the Milwaukee closed up the Tomahawk Agency.

Just out of sight to the right of the covered baggage wagon area, the Milwaukee had erected a wooden sign proclaiming "GATEWAY TO THE NORTHWOODS" and that the Milwaukee Road was "THE ROUTE OF THE NORTHWOODS HIAWATHA".

20+ years ago this building was being used as a Hardware Store. I believe it still is.

MILW Valley Job.jpg (below, 290 x 205, 5-6)
From Alfred Fickensher, the paired Alco RSD5's of the Tomahawk Patrol stand idle waiting for the Marinette, Tomahawk & Western to make their daily delivery to the Milwaukee in Tomahawk, Wis. The Milwaukee's delivery to the MT&W stands alongside the engines while the crew lolls inside the Milwaukee's Tomahawk Depot out of sight to the left.
