From the late Joe Stauber, some Milwaukee Road Valley Line shots of power he caught napping in spots along the line. Our first is a "plain Ol' " B Unit, 61B, idling away at New Lisbon, Wis., on August 17 1969. It, and the unit to the right, were most likely power for trains 472-473-474-475 up the Valley to Wausau and return.

F7A # 117A waits for the Marinette, Tomahawk & Western to make their delivery at Tomahawk on April 11, 1967. On this day, the Tomahawk Patrol has at least a pair of F units.
MILW 288 Wausau, Wis 15 May 1976 JS.jpg (below, 753 x 510, 9-7)
Looking somewhat out-of-place wearing Dynamic Brakes in the mid-hinterlands of Central Wisconsin, Milwaukee GP9 # 288 rests at the Wausau Roundhouse on Mat 15, 1976. By this date, the Alco's that haunted the Valley were just about retired, and would be before Thanksgiving that year. I can't explain why the GP9 would be by itself. An SW1 pokes into the photo to the right; it would have been the Wausau Switch Engine. The only explaination is that the Mosinee Patrol operates as a separate job at this point from the Wausau Switch job. Or, perhaps, it is in Wausau as the replacement for the SW1.

GP9 # 330 suns herself at Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., on November 1 1975. She's assigned to the Rapids Switch Engine/Nekoosa Patrol. Alco power is vanquished from the Milwaukee by this point.
MILW 331 Wis Rapids Wis 9 Sep 1979 JS.jpg (below, 881 x 587, 9-9)
331 suns herself in the same spot as # 330 shown previously, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., September 9, 1979, deep into the Milwaukee's third bankruptcy. The Alco's were gone 4 years and Milwaukee had hit the skids financially two years previous in 1977. That this GP9 looks a tad threadbare in 1979 isn't surprising.
