Another Bob Welke photograph, retrucked Alco RS3 # 463 works the south end of the Wausau Yard, ca. 1973. Note the TOFC flat next to the engine; trailer-on-flatcar was loaded out in Wausau for some time, although I cannot tell you what Wausau firm(s) used this service.

Courtesy of Bob Welke, the Tomahawk Patrol sauntering along between Wausau and Brokaw, Wis., on March 10, 1981. The SW1200 switcher cut in behind the engines is headed for Merrill to become that week's Switch Engine in Merrill.

In 1978 (I think), Milwaukee Road borrowed locomotives from every conceivable source they could to alleviate their desperate shortage of servicable power, most of which sat dead in Milwaukee awaiting repairs the bankrupt Milwaukee Road couldn't afford. Units even found their way on to the Milwaukee from the Misourri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (Or M-K-T for short). Here one such unit works putting her train together at Wausau. No specific date, no photographer identified. Webmaster's note: us Texians called this road "The Katy." I often saw these beauties between Austin and San Antonio back in the '70's... Another look at borrowed M-K-T power standing in Wausau, Wis., on the Milwaukee Road's Valley Line. The second unit is one bought second hand by the M-K-T from the Kennecot Copper Company. These units originally had high cabs and square, higher fuel tanks. M-K-T replaced the cabs with the standard height design, and some units got "Standard" sized fuel tank replacements as well.
