M&T-92.jpg (below)
Back at the West 4th Street crossing again, this looks at where the Run Around track used to peel off and run alongside the former "east Armor" track.

Midway to West 3rd Street. The tan-colored building to the left was once the Marshfield Telephone building. By the time of these photos, the City owned it and used it for storage.

At the West 3rd Street Crossing. 3rd Street ceased to be a through-street in 1968. The City closed it off forever and made where it ran into a part of the S.J. Miller recreation area.

An elevated view of the Shoe Factory, ca. 1950-55. Note the "West Weinbrenner" spur running in alongside the western side of the building; if you look close enough at the bottom of the photo, you can see the run around peeling off at 3rd street.

Weinbrenner Shoe in 1986, a shot that shows how little the place changed when you compare it to M&T-95, the after construction photo.

The west side where the loading docks used to be. Note you can still see the flashing for the roofs of those docks. As I write this, that flashing is STILL there!

M&T-100 Where It Was.jpg (below)
The Run Around was taken up in August of 1973. Technically, it was before that, as the Section Crew had come down and pulled up spikes long before they removed the rails.

I made these photos in June of 1987, when Lake States Transportation Co. (A union-busting operation of the greatly over-expanded Soo Line Railroad) was operating the lines that eventually became Wisconsin Central Ltd. 14 years after the single extra-wide tie that held the switch stand for the northern switch of the run around track had been removed, the weeds along the former Marshfield Telephone Building STILL weren't grown back where that tie had been.

Too bad the track wasn't still there, too.

Here the M&T bends over South Spruce avenue, pointed at West 2nd Street to bend around the rear of the Johnson Garment Co. This was a sharp curve; you could hear the train coming before they reached West 3rd Street if you listened for the howling flange noises as they made their way around it.
