The Greenwood Line - Part 11

# 1 G-Line 1910 Section Crew.jpg (below)
A period view from the Tribune-Record-Gleaner of the Greenwood Line Section Crew taken at the 1st Street crossing in Loyal. I'm guessing this was shot sometime after WW1, but who knows.
The biggest disappointment was that ALL the Negatives the T-R-G had, were DESTROYED.

# 2 G-Line Cooperative Services 1977.jpg (below)
The Co-operative Services Feed Mill in Greenwood ca. 1977. Co-operative Services was a good Railroad Customer, getting in around 250 cars per year, most of which was Fertilzer. The Box Car in the background was most likely a carload of Barn Lime, which was about all Co-operative Services got in by 1977 by box car.

This shot came from the Tribune-Record-Gleaner series called "Save The Soo" when the Soo Line looked to abandon the Greenwood Line once again in 1978.

Co-operative Services in August of 2002. Hasn't changed too much, except that thr former Fairchild & North-Eastern House Track that ran next to the building is gone and the addition of a couple of Grain Bins.

For my own reference, I made a list of the Roads and Avenues the Greenwood Line crossed so I could better correlate my stock of Photographs.

G-Line Loyal Map Pt. 1.jpg (below)
Plagurized map from the Soo Line Technical and Historical Society's publication, "The SOO" of the track arrangement in Loyal, Wis., with my own corrections and additions as to what was when I knew it.

Interestingly, my Soo Line Maps (Copies of official documents) show Loyal as having no less than 11 spurs in it. Soo Line numbered their Spur Tracks on Maps, to better reference documents when referring to a track in official capacity. "Graves Spur" or "O.W. Trindal Spur" were known in officus circles as "Spur # 7". Section Foremen, the Real Estate Department and the Legal Department all needed that kind of information. For the rest, "The Canning Co. Spur" or "Borden's" sufficed quite nicely and made for darned few bits of confusion.

Every spur track on the Railroad had a nickname which those that worked with it knew. For those higher up, it was more official!

G-Line 1978 Restructuring Notice 2.jpg (below)
In March of 1978, the Soo Line restructured Dad's Traveling Agency, taking away the Greenwood Line and giving him Rocky Run, Stockton and Custer Wisconsin. This notice was only to inform the Customers (what few there were between Marshfield and Custer on the Main Line) of the change of Business Office. Taking Dad off the Greenwood Line did little to change anything on his Hewitt-Junction City route. Except for Dad replacing Harold Jewett at Stockton and Custer, nothing too much else changed on this end, either.

The Letter introducing Bob Goldamer to the Customer's on the Greenwood Line and announcing Dad's departure.

Bob didn't make much of an impression on the Customers on the Greenwood Line. Bob, in fairness, had enough work with his Traveling Agency No. 9 based out of Abbottsford. Bob's stretch---Spencer to Stetsonville---was a busy stretch of railroad with many active Railroad Customers. Bob had all he could do with the work he had on that portion of Railroad without getting the Greenwood Line tacked on yet, too.
Consequently, when Dad took Bob out along the Greenwood Line to meet his Customer Contacts, Bob very brusquely told them, "You won't see me around". At Northside Elevator in Loyal, after Dad had introduced Bob to Steve and Tom Brussow, owners of Northside Elevator, and Bob harshly told Steve and Tom that "you won't see me around at all", Steve looked right at Dad and said, "Well, Neil, that's the end of Rail Service out here".

3 years later, Mr. Brussow's words were very prophetic indeed.
